Apartment Movie Review

Just when you thought directors of the stature of Jag Mundra wouldn't fall bait to the copycat syndrome currently afflicting Bollywood, here comes another copy-cat of the 1992 thriller 'Single White Female' directed by the famous American-Iranian film director Barbet Schroeder whose initial film 'Reversal of Fortune' is even better than the Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bridget Fonda starrer 'Single White Female'.
Lately, Jag Mundra has made some decent films, the 2008 Naseeruddin starrer 'Shoot on Sight' and the 2007 Aishwarya starrer 'Provoked' being fairly recent so one is unsure why he had any part in this rip-off of the Hollywood film.

The story is fairly simple; An air-hostess (played by Tanushree Dutta) parts ways with her erring boyfriend (Rohit Roy) and then invites a room-mate to help share the expenses of the apartment.  Neetu Chandra, a simpleton from nowhere moves in and all hell breaks loose for poor Tanushree as Neetu the sociopath/psychopath begings to emulate her style, wears her clothes and even tries to steal the boyfriend who wants to patch up.  Eventually the film rips off all the scenes from the original, adds in a couple of sleazy scenes of Neetu Chandra bathing (that has been the only way the film has been marketed all across the media) and a dance and seduction song that makes absolutely no sense at all to the overall plot.  You'd rather sit home and rent 'Single White Female' that has an equal amount of plot-holes but at least it is redeemed with a nail-biting ending.
Just when we thought Jag Mundra was out of his Vijay Amitraj phase of making cheap B sexploitation films like 'Night Eyes', 'Last Call', 'Eyewitness to Murder' and a slew of others, he returns back with 'Apartment' to square one.
